G. Douglas Vallee Limited was retained by the County of Brant as the Structural Engineer for the replacement of the Mill Street Bridge, which spans Whitemans Creek in Mount Vernon, just outside of Burford. The original rigid frame heritage bridge was a 1920s concrete arch that had deteriorated beyond rehabilitation and was replaced with an innovative long-span structure.
The new bridge was designed with pile foundations, pre-cast concrete girder slab, and a semi-integral abutment deck end design, which eliminated the need for expansion joints. Our engineer’s design also included a modified open railing for landscape viewing and end-walls featuring heritage plaques in commemoration of its predecessor.
