With a total project span of 800 metres, the reconstruction of Colborne Street North was completed in two phases between 2023 and 2024. The Vallee municipal engineering team was contracted by Norfolk County to provide design and contract administration services for the replacement of all infrastructure. This included sanitary, storm, water, sidewalk, curb, gutter, and asphalt surfaces, as well as the installation of new traffic signals at intersection of Colborne and Robinson.
A significant challenge within this project was that various infrastructure had originally been installed through a concrete box culvert. The existing sanitary was a simple steel pipe that had previously been installed through the culvert; this was replaced with a carrier pipe through which a PVC sanitary sewer was inserted. Additionally, the existing watermain had been routed around and under the creek bed, impeding access for maintenance or repair. The new, pre-insulated watermain was also installed within a carrier pipe through the culvert.
