Project Progress: Henley Bridge
G. Douglas Vallee Limited is
excited to announce our teaming with Archaeological Research Associates Ltd.
for the Strategic Conservation Plan for the Henley Bridge on the QEW! The
Henley Bridge is the highest scored heritage bridge in Ontario, and is a
designated heritage bridge of provincial significance.
The Henley Bridge is famous
for its hand-carved stone monuments, as well as its association with rowing and
the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta; the bridge was also officially
‘opened’ by King George VI and Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mother) in 1939 while
still under construction. This formidable open spandrel concrete arch bridge
also marks the gateway to the very first divided highway built in North
America.
