The reconstruction of Brown Street West in Waterford, from Washington Street to Main Street South, saw the replacement of all sanitary, storm, and water infrastructure, as well as the sidewalk, curb, gutter, and asphalt surfaces. The Vallee municipal engineering team was awarded the contract by Norfolk County and was responsible for pre-design, detailed design, contract administration, and construction inspections.

Because of the timing of this project and nearby future projects, only restricted stormwater outlets were available over the course of construction. To manage this, our engineers added infiltration galleries at the end of the storm sewer system. These help to absorb and slow down the water before it enters the existing drainage system.

The elevation variance in road allowance along this residential street posed another challenge to the overall fit of the design. To overcome this, our team implemented a super-elevated road cross section and increased the length of the driveway restoration.

Given that Brown Street is within a residential area and its proximity to two local schools, new sidewalks and ladder-style crosswalks were installed, improving safety for pedestrians.
