The Elliott Bridge, located in the historic hamlet of Bloomsburg along Old 24 Highway, required a complete removal of the existing structure. Following the removal, it was replaced with a precast, open footing, 3-sided structure on cast-in place footings with cast-in place headwalls and retaining walls. The work also included widening of the existing roadway to allow for 1.5 metres of paved shoulder for improved access to the Waterford Heritage Railway Trail.
The bridge is situated adjacent to the Elliott family farm, where Vallee’s Director of Structural Engineering, Ryan Elliott, grew up. As a nod to his family’s connection with the local history, Ryan placed his father’s railway pocket watch, a family heirloom, in the concrete footing as a time capsule.
