Gates Bridge, located just outside of Fisherville, spans the Gates Creek and drains directly into Lake Erie along the beachfront. The project required the complete removal of the existing bridge and construction of a new replacement structure, including associated approach roadwork construction and roadway erosion protection.
The new structure is a semi-integral, pre-cast, concrete girder slab bridge with a clear span of 13m and was designed for its close proximity to the lake, taking potential flood risk and wave action into consideration. Construction was completed by W.G. Kelly Construction and included pile foundation to bedrock, semi-integral abutment design, and an open steel rail to provide improved deck drainage, as well as offer a better view of the beachfront vista for travelers.
