Vallee was retained to complete a heritage building condition assessment and structural investigation of the historic Listowel Carnegie Library, a 1907 Carnegie-funded public library and significant community landmark.

Through detailed architectural and structural evaluations, Vallee identified several deficiencies affecting the building, including floor settlement, timber deterioration, drainage concerns, and impacts from previous renovations. Our team completed forensic investigations and developed a comprehensive rehabilitation strategy to address these issues while preserving the building’s heritage character.

The restoration work included structural reinforcement of historic floor systems, floor jacking to restore level conditions within the Carnegie Reading Room, fire-separation upgrades, and heritage-sensitive architectural improvements. Vallee provided services from assessment and design through tendering, contract administration, and construction review.

A key project objective was maintaining library operations throughout construction. Through careful planning and coordination, the facility remained open and fully functional while rehabilitation work was successfully completed.
