The Dorchester Street EMS Station is one of the “standard” ambulance stations G. Douglas Vallee Limited was retained to design for the Middlesex-London EMS Authority. The county intended to develop a “standard” ambulance station design that would be used to construct multiple stations. This standard design had to be flexible in order to provide options and alternatives for the amount of crew space and the number of vehicles to be accommodated in the apparatus bays.
The construction of Dorchester Station No. 18 was complete, as of July 2018. The design provided for two overhead doors at the front of the building and two at the back in a drive-through configuration. Adjacent to the truck bay is the administrative block, allowing for minimal travel distance and obstruction to the storage bay. The administrative block is comprised of a Deputy Superintendent’s office, crew room with lounge space, kitchen, universal washroom, and report writing room. The mechanical/electrical room is accessible via the truck bay.
