Estimated to have been built in the 1930s, the original Norwich Road Bridge was determined to have deteriorated beyond repair and required a complete removal and replacement. The new long-span, rigid-frame steel girder bridge was the first built in Norfolk County using this innovative design and features reinforced concrete abutments and deck, with associated adjacent road works.

Construction of this project required methods that paid special consideration to the sensitive environment of the cold-water trout spawning grounds of Big Creek.
