Rouse Culvert on Burtch Rd after successful rehabilitation by Vallee

G. Douglas Vallee Limited was contracted by County of Brant to complete the design and contract administration of the Rouse culvert rehabilitation on Burtch Road in Mount Pleasant. The pre-existing culvert was a multi-plate, corrugated steel pipe (CSP) structure that was failing; the steel was deteriorating and in need of replacement.

The Bridge division of Vallee’s structural engineering department completed a feasibility review, evaluating construction costs, hydraulics, and hydrology. It was determined the culvert could be lined instead of replaced, saving the municipality 50% of the replacement cost. A new liner was fitted and installed by Anthony’s Excavating at a construction cost of approximately $300k.
