Vallee assisted St. Paul’s Anglican Church with structural repairs to the church’s nearly two-century-old roof timbers. These repairs allowed for the new roof sheathing and a steeple restoration to be completed.

After inspecting the church’s roof framing, our structural engineers provided a Heritage Building Structural Pathology Report outlining next-step options. The client elected to repair the rafters and replaced the heavy asphalt roof with a lighter steel one. These improvements preserved the integrity and heritage of the original timbers while mitigating costs.

Additionally, Vallee is overseeing accessibility renovations to the adjacent St. Paul’s Community Hall. Both projects will ensure these heritage-valued buildings remain viable community spaces for generations to come.

The doors of St. Paul’s Anglican Church officially opened in 1851, with its prominent steeple continuing to serve as a beacon to returning fishermen on Lake Erie today. In the 170-plus years since its construction, the fishermen’s chapel has survived two fires and undergone only minor sympathetic renovations and updates. The building today looks much as it would have to a returning fisherman in the Victorian era.
