G. Douglas Vallee Limited was retained by Haldimand County as the Structural Engineer for the design of the Summerhaven Pedestrian Bridge, Pedestrian Trail & Waterfront Park. Located south of the village of Selkirk on the shore of Lake Erie, the addition of this bridge allows pedestrians and cyclists to cross Hemlock Creek while using Haldimand County’s Waterfront Trail and Lake Erie Cycling Route. The original bridge was removed decades ago, however, we were able to preserve the surviving stone abutment wall on the east bank, incorporating this aspect into the new bridge design. This design strategy maintained the historic aesthetic of the bridge, while completely revitalizing the park and providing a new trail bridge crossing.
