Interior of renovated Waterford Public Library designed by G.D. Vallee

The newly renovated Norfolk County Public Library Waterford Branch officially reopened on May 1, 2025, fulfilling a vision for a modern, sustainable, and accessible public library. This major library renovation in Waterford was designed to enhance community engagement through a comprehensive transformation of the existing building. The project’s primary goal was to achieve significant greenhouse gas emissions reduction for Norfolk County, accomplished through key energy-efficient upgrades including a new HVAC system, high-performance windows, LED lighting, and the installation of rooftop solar units.

The interior design of the library was reimagined to create an open-concept layout that improves functionality and patron experience. The renovations focused heavily on barrier-free accessibility, including upgrades to the washrooms and the creation of dedicated zones for a variety of uses. Patrons can now enjoy creative maker spaces for projects, quiet study nooks for concentration, and flexible community gathering areas for events.

G. Douglas Vallee Limited served as the Prime Consultant, Architect, and Structural Engineer on this public library retrofit, collaborating closely with Norfolk County staff and PK Construction. The successful project team established an efficient tendering and construction schedule, allowing the branch to remain in use until work began. The revitalized Waterford Branch now stands as a purpose-driven hub for learning and connection, inviting residents to explore its new services and features.
